The APEGA Education Foundation (AEF) fosters young people’s interest in science, technology, engineering and math. We support educational outreach programs and provide financial assistance for eligible Alberta students. Investing in students extends learning in science and technology and creates a strong Alberta.

Any student meeting the criteria outlined below is eligible for AEF funding AND we are committed to a future of increased diversity through specific support for women, aboriginal students and new Canadians.

2017 Bursaries

AEF awards up to five $5,000 bursaries to Albertans enrolled in an undergraduate engineering or geoscience program anywhere in Canada. These bursaries are awarded primarily on financial need and non-academic accomplishments. Eligibility
  • Student must be enrolled/accepted into any year of an undergraduate engineering or geoscience degree program at a Canadian institution
  • Student must have been an Alberta resident for at least 12 consecutive months prior to entering university
  • Student must demonstrate in sufficient detail that the bursary will enable attendance and/or completion of the degree that otherwise may not be possible
  • Student must demonstrate participation in extracurricular activities such as sport, recreation, arts, volunteering, mentoring, community involvement, etc.

Each year, AEF awards up to two $5,000 bursaries to eligible First Nations students from Treaties 6, 7 and 8 (Alberta) who are enrolled in an engineering undergraduate program at the University of Alberta, or the University of Calgary. Bursaries are awarded primarily on financial need and non-academic accomplishments. Eligibility
  • Student must be a member of a Treaty 6, 7 or 8 (Alberta) First Nation
  • Student must be enrolled/accepted into any year of an undergraduate program in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta or the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary.
  • Student must demonstrate in sufficient detail that the bursary will enable attendance and/or completion of the degree that otherwise may not be possible
  • Student must demonstrate participation in extracurricular activities such as sport, recreation, arts, volunteering, mentoring, community involvement, etc.

The foundation awards one $5,000 bursary each year to an engineering graduate student at the University of Alberta, or the University of Calgary. Bursaries are awarded primarily on financial need and non-academic accomplishments. Eligibility
  • Student must be enrolled/accepted into a graduate degree program in engineering at the University of Alberta, or the University of Calgary
  • Student must be staying in Canada to further his/her career after completion of the degree
  • Student must demonstrate in sufficient detail that the bursary will enable attendance and/or completion of the degree that otherwise may not be possible
  • Student must demonstrate participation in extracurricular activities such as sport, recreation, arts, volunteering, mentoring, community involvement, etc.

Application Process & Timelines

  • Please ensure your application is complete. Incomplete applications, or failure to provide sufficient detail, may render your application ineligible
  • Applications will be received from June 1 to July 31 by the AEF Honours & Awards Committee
  • Successful applicants will be notified by September 30
  • Funds will be forwarded after the university confirms that you are enrolled/registered in the applicable program
  • The award is paid directly to the university.
