As outlined in its mission statement, APEGA is primarily a regulatory body that also provides leadership for the professions and upholds its Members in their professional practices. The APEGA Education Foundation (AEF) was established in 1996 to support the latter two elements through education.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) expects AEF to operate at arms-length from APEGA. To that end, AEF has its own Board of Directors (with one APEGA representative, currently the CEO) that reports to a larger group of AEF members drawn from the APEGA membership. As an arms-length organization, APEGA does not unduly influence the decision making of AEF and has not been a recipient of funding from AEF.

However, Members and donors can expect that AEF will continue to align itself with APEGA objectives.

Further, at over 90% of revenues disbursed for student and outreach support, AEF is a low-cost charity thanks to APEGA’s provision of staff, space and services.
